2020 One World Challenge

Don't miss a birds-eye view into the hearts, souls, and communication skills of DC’s young people at the One World Challenge. DC students will have worked for eight weeks to turn their stellar essays into compelling oral presentations and will compete on stage for $10,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Topics are likely to include:

  • Overcoming stuttering
  • Getting “the talk” about the risk of police brutality from your parents
  • Being scared stiff to go to college
One 8th-grade student recently shared her planned hook for an essay about school shootings:

Close your eyes and imagine this. 'Hey mom, I'm leaving you this voicemail to inform you that I'm in danger because there is an active shooter in the building. I'm scared and worried that I will die. I love you and hope to see you later on today. Pray mom, please.'
