One World Education was recently awarded its second Scholarships for Opportunity and Results (SOAR) grant through the District of Columbia’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). The grant funds organizations that boost academic outcomes for DC’s charter school student population through evidence-based programming, with an emphasis on serving economically disadvantaged students. One World was awarded $230,000 to partner with nine DC charter schools, including:
- Achievement Prep: Wahler Place Middle School
- Chavez Schools: Chavez Prep Middle School
- Chavez Schools: Capitol Hill High School
- Chavez Schools: Parkside High School
- Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science
- IDEA Public Charter School
- Monument Academy
- Richard Wright Public Charter School for Journalism and Media Arts
- Washington Leadership Academy
For the next two years, One World will train teachers, provide its comprehensive argumentative writing curriculum, and assess students’ academic gains. More than 1,500 students a year will choose a social justice issue relevant to their own lives and use One World’s rigorous process to write argumentative essays.
School leaders and teachers at the nine schools are thrilled for this partnership opportunity, and One World thanks OSSE for its ongoing efforts to create college-ready writers.
