One World was one of 15 groups worldwide to receive a 2024 Library of Congress “Successful Practice Honoree” literacy award, which is given to organizations that provide exemplary, innovative, and replicable strategies that promote literacy. The Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, presided over the ceremony and is pictured below with our Deputy Director, Summer Xavier, and our Development Manager, Rose Ole-Kuyan.
The One World Middle School Challenge is Approaching

Parker Mullen, an 8th grader from Inspired Teaching PCS, lives near Gallaudet University, the only liberal arts university in the world designed for Deaf students. It spurred him to wonder about audism—prejudice against people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHOH.). He proposes that schools and workplaces work to connect hearing and DHOH people, with field trips, American Sign Language classes, and spaces for socialization. Read more here.
