Being bullied to the point of suicide, picked on day and night, week after week, month after month, during and after school, would be daunting for adults but even worse for students. Bullying has made many people not feel as if they are good enough or ask if they even have a purpose. Since the onset of the internet, students have been cyberbullied because of their image or the way they do something. One of my friends was bullied in the first grade, which made him hate the school and not want to go there anymore. This ended up in him leaving in the middle of the school year, and I have not seen him since then. We can solve this problem by holding government and social media apps to a standard.
Bullying has long affected our youth. In the past, bullying was mostly done face to face, but now it is also happening through social media. According to Pew Research, “over 53% of teens say that online harassment impacts their daily life.” According to “CyberBullying Research Center,” About 27% of teens said they had been cyberbullied in the most recent 30 days. This goes to show that cyberbullying happens frequently to many young people.
The people who can solve this problem are the government. One way they can solve this problem is by developing programs to help. The research website OCALI talks about a program at Clemson University that allows students who are being bullied, or students who bully, to come and talk about what’s going on in their lives. The program helps keep students from bullying if they are bullies and helps students get support if they are getting bullied. Research has shown this to be an effective program.
As you can see, many teens say that cyberbullying has an impact on their lives. Teens think that bullying is very heavy and hard-hitting in their lives. Being bullied as a teen can affect their future life, but help can make it better.
