Have you noticed that the number of children being abused has risen in the United States? Child abuse and neglect are major challenges because they negatively impact children and their childhood. Therefore, communities need to support families by gathering to make a plan to help children, helping guardians through struggles, and talking to guardians who don’t know how to discipline their children. The help and support of guardians can keep children from getting abused each year in the United States.
Child abuse is rampant in the United States, the land of freedom and prosperity. According to National Statistics on Child Abuse-National Children Alliance, “In 2021, an estimated 1,820 children died from abuse and neglect in the United States.” This is too many children dying from child abuse, and this not only traumatizes the children but also communities and family members. Child abuse can happen to anyone that you, your friends, or your family members know. It hurts when you find out or know. Child abuse needs to decrease, not increase.
Communities and the government need to help stop child abuse from happening. They can talk to schools about starting therapy sessions during and after school and donate to a reputable GoFundMe for families in need. According to “Intervention to Prevent Child Maltreatment” in the Journal of the American Medical Association, “Interventions that may prevent child maltreatment include referral to community resources, parent education to increase the use of positive discipline strategies, and behavioral therapy for parents to improve coping skills and strengthen the parent-child relationship.” These strategies can prevent or at least lessen the number of children who are abused in the United States.
Guardians shouldn’t beat their children because they need support or are going through a struggle. If children are constantly abused, the worst may happen. This topic matters to me because I do not think any child walking on this earth deserves to be abused. Children should be showered in love, but it’s not happening enough. This is why we need to eradicate child abuse.
